VST - Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

1. VST plugins

What are VST plugins?

Virtual Studio Technology (VST) is an interface defined by Steinberg for integrating software audio synthesizers and effect plugins with audio editors and hard-disk recording systems. VST and similar technologies use Digital Signal Processing to simulate traditional recording studio hardware with software. See Wikipedia for more information.

How can I use VST plugins?

VST plugins do not run by itself, but are additions to a host program (an audio editor, sequencing program, digital audio workstation or other software package) that supports VST plugins. There is a broad range of free and commercial host programs that support the VST interface.

2. Ordering and installation

How can I try your plugins?

The free plugin range can be downloaded free of charge and used for audio and music processing. You are not allowed to redistribute these plugins without permission.

For PRO plugins, demo versions are available that are fully functional except for specific functions or knobs that are disabled. Fully functional copies of the PRO plugins without limitations can be obtained in the online shop.

How can I order full versions of the PRO plugins?

Step 1: Select the product you would like to buy in the online shop and click on the corresponding 'Buy Now' button.

Step 2: You will be forwarded to an external website to make your payment (PayPal). You can either use a creditcard or a PayPal account. Make sure that you use a valid email address to ensure that you will correctly receive the product you purchased and that you will be notified of future updates.

Step 3: PayPal account and credit card orders will be processed immediately. E-checks may require about a week to clear at PayPal.com. When payment is successful, you will receive an email with a link to download the product including the manual (in PDF format). This download link will be available for 7 days.

How do I install plugins?

Our plugins are not supplied with automatic installation programs. Installation is simple: download the product from the link supplied in the email, unzip the downloaded zip file, and store the files to your host's VST plugin folder. Please refer to the manual of your host program to locate the VST plugin folder. Please remove older (or beta) versions of the same plugin from your system before installing newer ones.

Where can I find a manual?

All PRO plugins have a PDF-format manual accompanied with the download (both full and demo versions).

The free VST plugins do not come with manuals, with the exception of 'Broadcast processor'.

Do I need a serial number or hardware key?

Contrary to common practice, we do not charge paying customers for copy protection schemes. Furthermore, we do not want to bother paying customers with typing in long serial numbers, inconvenient on-line authentication schemes, problems with failing hardware locks, and alike. This is how we keep our prices low, and we ask you to respect this and buy our products if you would like to use them.

Help, I lost my copy!

No problem. If you still have the email with the download link, reply to this email with a request to re-activate the download link. Otherwise use the contact form to ask for download re-activation (please include the same contact information as you used during ordering).

3. Specifications

What VST versions are supported?

The free plugin range is based on VST specification 2.3; the PRO range is currently based on VST specification 2.4.

Are these plugins for 32 or 64 bits Windows?

Currently all plugins are intended for 32-bits Windows (Windows 2000, Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 7).

How about 64-bits audio data?

Most plugins of the PRO range support processing of 64 bits audio data.

What sample rates are supported?

This depends on the plugin. Most plugins support sample rates up to 192 kHz for high-end use. Please refer to the manual of each plugin for specific limits.

Will your plugins also be available for MAC?

Currently we only support the Microsoft Windows platform. This may change in the future but currently no activities are foreseen to port plugins to MAC.

How are these plugins created?

The plugins are written in C++ using our own dedicated and optimized DSP routines. The employed signal processing algorithms are the result of several years of professional DSP expertise, listening experiments, literature surveys and algorithmic optimizations. We do NOT use any third-party plugin creation software such as synthedit or alike.
